May 2010 Local Fibre Challenge
Your newly elected program committee has a challenge we are throwing out to all Guild members. Members are invited to rise to the challenge as individuals, as pairs or working in groups. This is the challenge: between now and the end of May 2010, create an article(s) made exclusively of local fibres and materials. We define "local" as preferably being from Salt Spring but if you are stuck, you could go within a 100-mile radius of Salt Spring for your fibre. The fibre needs to be grown and processed locally.

We are getting this information out to you this early in case there are fibres or materials you would want to grow (e.g. dye plants) or collect (e.g. nettles, reeds) during the summer. While we know an obvious choice for local fibres would be wool, we encourage you to also think of fibres that might be less well known. Our plan is to have a display at the Fall Fair in 2010 of all our articles created from Salt Spring fibres. We hope you will answer our challenge and come up with creative, wonderful things and have great fun in the process.
